This map was a dream for me as well. I’ve always wanted to make a map using pink and purple colors primarily, but they often don’t make sense within a map theme. When considering the cover art for Hounds of Love, and the mood I was trying to create with the map, I decided on this colorway. I’m also overjoyous about the concept and format of this map. I’m always looking for ways to meld my personal interests with my academic career, and this map is a quintessential example. I drew a lot of inspiration on this project from the Hounds of Love album cover, on which “Cloudbusting” is Track 5. The cover art depicts Kate surrounded by dreamy swirls of purple fabrics, with her hair curling through it. The purple and pink swirl effect on my map was made in Photoshop with a watercolor brush stamp, the smudge tool, and the blur tool.
