Sophie Michalski

Hello world! I'm Sophie, a recent Cartography & GIS M.S. graduate from UW-Madison. I also currently work in Madison, WI as a GIS Associate for OneEnergy, a solar development company. My interest in cartography blossomed from my passion for graphic design in high school, so I often enjoy making maps that combine my enthusiasm for the arts and the environmental into visual representations of the world. A profound appreciation and respect for the natural world has led me into environmental sustainability and ecological conservation, but I have many academic interests that synthesize GIS, including agrivoltaics and dual-use solar, renewable energy, archaeology, art history, and map art. Some of my favorite animals are keystone species that shape our shared world for the better, like bumble bees, beavers, groundhogs, bats, vultures, and other birds (some of which I've conducted research on!). In my free time, you can find me reading a good book, meandering around outside for very long walks, snorkeling, admiring artwork, attending musicals/plays/theatrical events, and traveling all around the globe!
